Spring Concert
Music was in the air at Meadowood when the Spring Music Concert sponsored by BWF in conjunction with Mu Phi Epsilon (The International Professional Music Fraternity).
Marian Krajewska Bates from Mu Phi Epsilon and Ruth Albright from Bloomignton Worldwide Friendship, Inc. introduced the audience to students from the IU Jacobs school of music who performed.
Pianist Gulrukh Shakirova, from Uzbekistan, performed music by Schubert. Gulrukh is studying at IU for the prestigious Artist Diploma under the guidance of Distinguished Professor Menahem Pressler.
Francisco Brunner, from Santiago, Chile, performed two clarinet-solo pieces. The first piece was by Malcolm Arnold. The second piece was by Jorge Montilla and was a clarinet rendition of some South American Folk music. Francisco is a freshman at IU studying with Professor Howard Klug.
For the Malcolm Arnold work, Francisco was accompanied on the piano by Isabella Jie who is finishing her master’s degree with Professor Reiko Shigeoka-Neriki.
Francisco was joined by Natalie Allen to perform a playful clarinet duo by Francis Poulenc. Natalie is from McLean, Virginia, and she also studies with Professor Howard Klug.
Yoon-Wha Roh hails from South Korea. She played a piece by Liszt. She is pursuing her Doctor of Music degree at IU and studies with Professor Arnaldo Cohen.
After the concert coffee, tea, and cookies gave the audience and the performers a change to intereact.
