Bloomington also encourages pedestrian and bike traffic. Sidewalks and bike trails are abundant and frequently used in the community.

Bloomington is a smoke-free community. Smoking is prohibited in all public places and places of employment. It is allowed at a reasonable distance from entrances so that smoke is not detected in the prohibited area.

- Climate: Spring and fall months are moderate – 50s to 70s. Summer month temperatures reach the 90s and winter month temperatures range from 0-30 degrees Fahrenheit. Rain is prevalent in the spring and fall; and snow and ice fill the city during the winter.
- Time Zone: Bloomington is located in the Eastern Time Zone. This means that the city observes Daylight Savings Time and turns its clocks forward one hour in the spring and back one hour in the fall. Bloomington is on the same time zone that is observed on the east coast.
- Relation to major cities: Bloomington is located within a few hours of several major cities including 50 miles from Indianapolis, 106 miles from Louisville, 155 miles from Cincinnati and 234 miles from Chicago.
