Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of Bloomington Worldwide Friendship (BWF) was held on March 25 at 5:00.  It has been the tradition for the past few years to have a potluck dinner as part of the annual meeting where students and hosts share food and conversation.  This year the meeting was held at the First United Church on 3rd Street in Bloomington and the first order of business was good food.

Co-Presidents Hiromi  Sumiyoshi and Harriet Kulis opened the business part of the annual meeting with introductions of the current officers and directors of BWF.   The slate of officers for 2012 through 2014 was offered as follows:

  • President: Anne Bright
  • Vice President: Michael Molenda
  • Treasurer: Cindy York
  • Secretary: Charlotte Griffin
  • Director at large: Sue Speichert

There are two current directors at large (Jillian DeHaan and Erica Kendall)  whose terms run through March of 2013 and there is one open seat for a director at large.  Nominations for officers was opened to the floor but there were no nominees proposed.  The proposed slate of officers was accepted by vote of the membership.  Anyone interested in the open seat as director at large was requested to contact the new president Anne Bright.

Harriet stated that Erica Kendall is working on enhancing the BWF Facebook presence and that it would be launched soon.

The following were mentioned as the next events that will be officially scheduled by BWF:

  • Fall Orientation of International Students will be the week of August 5, 2012.
  • The date for the fall picnic at Lake Lemon had been selected to be September 30, 2012.  More information will be available on the BWF website as the date approaches.

As her first official act as president, Anne Bright, thanked Hiromi and Harriet for their four years as co-presidents of the organization.  Many good things have happened under their watch.  Anne presented to Hiromi and Harriet tokens of appreciation in form of a picture frame and a hydrangea plant for the garden.  See their thank you.

There being no other business, the annual meeting was adjourned.

Following the business meeting many of the attendees participated in the fun activity of American Square Dancing.

The square dance caller/instructor Mark Richardson introduced all attendees to some simple traditional square dance steps.  Music was provided by “Entwined”.
